By pressurizing water up to 1000 psi and forcing it through a specially designed mist system nozzles, billions of tiny water droplets can be created. Each droplet is smaller than the size of a grain of salt and are so light they actually suspend themselves in the air. If the water evaporates, it produces cooling up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit making it a very effective method of outdoor cooling. If the droplets are enclosed in an area such as a greenhouse, humidity levels up to 100% are achievable. Because the droplets are so small, they have the ability to remove small particles from the air making fog systems a very effective method of dust and odor control.

The concept has since expanded to include hundreds of specialty uses including humidification, dust and odor control, greenhouse propagation, specialty air filtration, fire suppression, special effects, and more.

These diverse systems are used for commercial, industrial and residential applications. Although the most common use for mist systems is still outdoor cooling, new and exciting uses continue to be developed. Industries such as restaurants, theme parks, metal and concrete manufacturing, produce storage facilities, dairy and poultry farms, zoos, amusement parks, wood and textile plants all can benefit from the unique attributes associated with mist systems.

Mistscaping®

Created and developed by Fogco Systems, Inc., Mistscaping allows for the subtle introduction of fog effects into any outdoor application. Utilizing the Fogco 1000psi pump module and specially designed Mistscaping risers, any standard landscaping project can be transformed into a cool and soothing tropical showcase.

These risers are attached to the feed line and placed throughout the landscaping for an entrancing effect like no other. The special memory tubing used for the risers allows the fog to be directed and controlled for maximum effect. In addition, as the landscaping matures, the fog can be re-directed as necessary.

Pool Fog Deck

Fogdeck represents the latest innovation. This patented (# 7,334,743 B2) system is a dramatic water feature for the most discriminating homeowners and all upscale pool projects. The Fogdeck system allows for a distinctive introduction of fog effects into any new or remodeled pool. By utilizing a Fogco 1000 PSI pump module and specially designed assemblies, any pool project can be transformed into a unique and mystical design.

The FogDeck assemblies are installed during the construction of the pool and allow for the placement of a recessed fog line directly into the leading edge of the cool deck. By introducing the fog line at this point, it is able to roll across the surface of the water creating a dramatic and ever changing panorama. As with all high pressure cooling systems, it will also provide residual cooling around the perimeter of the pool area.

Cooling

Outdoor fog systems have been effectively used in outdoor cooling applications for decades. These systems, when properly designed and installed, can provide cooling of outdoor temperatures by up to 40 degrees Fahrenheit with virtually no noticeable increase in the relative humidity. Applications will include restaurants, theme parks, hotels and resorts, spectator arenas, tennis courts, golf facilities, boats and RVs, fountains, waterfalls, and patios, etc.

mist_cooling1-1By using 1000 PSI, atomizing the water droplets to a size as small as 5 microns (5 millionths of a meter) in diameter is possible. At this level, ‘flash evaporation’ occurs reducing the ambient temperature. This process, known as “thermal dynamics”, is effective because water requires energy (600 calories of heat to evaporate 1 gram of water) to evaporate. This energy exchange results in reduced temperatures.

The overall effectiveness of the system will depend on existing temperature and humidity levels. As the temperature rises (85 degrees Fahrenheit to 115 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal), and humidity levels drop (above 90% performance is marginal, 40% to 90% performance is good, below 40% performance is excellent), the systems results can be dramatic. As with any evaporative cooling process, the more moisture evaporated, the greater the cooling results.

The new Revolution Series is the latest innovation in climate control and is appropriate for evaporative cooling for any application. Because of the unique design of this unit, it can be used in both indoor and outdoor applications.

Humidification

There are many commercial and industrial applications where controlling humidity levels can provide a significant improvement to the overall operation. By specifically setting and maintaining humidity, temperature, and air exchange standards for the operation, overall profitability is enhanced. For these specific situations, fog systems are the ideal solution.

In wine storage applications, increasing the relative humidity can dramatically reduce the evaporation of wine through the oak barrels.

mist_cooling2One of the keys to improving the operation and the quality of the products produced in the woodworking industry is to properly maintain the Equilibrium Moisture Content (EMC). This is the moisture content within the wood fibers where moisture is neither gained nor lost. Maintaining a stable EMC will minimize moisture content changes during servicing. This will effectively eliminate many of the quality issues associated with woodworking.

Paper production and storage facilities also benefit from a controlled environment. Because paper products can readily gain and lose moisture, a constantly controlled humidity level is critical to consistent and improved quality in the end product.

As with other industries, a typical textile operation can also derive significant benefit from environmental control by use of a FOGCO System. Properly maintained humidity levels, usually between 50% and 65%, will result in improved quality and minimal downtime or rejections. It does this because ideal humidity levels will actually increase the tensile strength of all natural fibers. The enhanced production capacity and reduced waste creates a more profitable textile operation. In addition, static electricity can be removed making the yarn more workable and controllable and resulting in less yarn separation. It also controls ‘cotton fly’ and residual airborne lint.

Greenhouse

Greenhouse productivity is dependent on many factors. Although a fog system cannot control or affect all variables, it can have a positive impact by regulating the temperature, humidity and moisture content within the greenhouse.

Fog systems are ideal for addressing and correcting the problems associated with high temperatures and/or low humidity levels. These systems have been used for decades in greenhouse humidification and can be used year round. This will promote increased health and productivity within the greenhouse by eliminating ‘plant water stresses, one of the most significant factors in the growth of all plants. Plants lose most of their moisture through evaporation from the leaves. They also gather most of the carbon needed for growth in the form of carbon dioxide through the leaves. By controlling the plants pores through effective climate control, the results are stronger and healthier plants with optimum growth potential. There is no better, more effective method to control this than with a properly designed fog system. Fog systems can also be used to introduce fertilizers into the environment by injecting nutrients directly into the atmosphere. The moisture and the nutrients are absorbed by the leaves of the plant.

Odor

Fog systems are ideal for eliminating odors associated with solid waste treatment facilities, microbial decomposition of animal waste, and noxious volatile compounds. Some of the more common problems include carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and methane. Although carbon dioxide and methane are odorless, they can be lethal.

The quality components and proper system design of a fogging System will allow for an efficient and economical delivery system for all odor removal chemicals. Utilizing a simplistic pressurized water supply, the FOGCO System is far less expensive to operate and maintain than traditional air injection systems. The fog systems can even be used to economically remove workplace related odors and are designed for both interior and exterior applications.

From landfills to waste treatment facilities; from stockyards to hog farms, virtually any odor problem can be effectively countered with the high quality fog products.

Fog system applications for odor suppression include: Chemical plants, Solid Waste and Waste Transfer Stations, Construction Sites and equipment, Landfills and Garbage Dumps, Industrial Odors, Aeration Ponds, Composting Facilities, Poultry and Livestock Facilities, Food Processing Plants, Refineries, and Paper mills.

Dust

In addition to the ability to provide odor neutralizing, fog systems have shown to be an effective method for dust suppression, dust abatement, and air filtration. They can also controls flies, and suppress odor causing pathogens.

When properly designed and installed, the FOGCO System produces a high concentration of 10 micron fog droplets. This size water droplets (10 millionths of a meter in diameter) provide optimum performance for attraction and suppression of PM 10 and smaller dust particles. The systems can effectively remove breathable and fugitive dust suppression from .1 to 1000 microns. Dust surrounded by dense fog has little chance to escape. Because of the high standard of quality and industry experience, these systems meet or exceed the EPA PM 10 standards for dust suppression.
